The Scene: Ohio 1st Congressional District debate on October 23, 2006, Freedom Center, Cincinnati. The debate at the Freedom Center was almost a surreal side show to the real event outside.http://www.wcpo.com/news/2006/local/10/23/debate_eve.html People gathered to challenge Cranley and Chabot to address critical issues.
A few people were there to address the issues of social security, the minimum wage, and clean elections, but at least five people were there to protest the war.
The American Friends Service Committee sent a representative.
They had a pair of boots for every Ohio soldier killed in Iraq.
With a special pair for Matt Maupin.
The shoes for the Iraq casualities were all sorts: shoes for men, for women, and for childern, with each pair representing 1,000 dead.
I didn't have a ticket, so I could not get in to the debate. I did listen to most of it on the radio. As I said, it all seemed surreal. So it goes. Notice:
